Engineering Change Management

Engineering change management is a central function for changes to master data. These changes are monitored and seamlessly documented as part of the obligation to produce supporting documents.

The changes take effect automatically in the areas of the logistics process chain (for example, sales order, material requirements planning, and shop floor and production control) when a corresponding release key is set.

You can perform object changes (for example, routing changes) in the SAP system either with or without history. For changes without history, the system generates change documents, but the change statuses are not saved.

If you make changes with a change number, these are termed historical changes.

Inside the change number, you can define the following objects:

  • Material
  • Different BOM categories
  • Different types of routings
  • Documents
  • Characteristic, class, and classification
  • Variant tables, object dependencies, and configuration profile
  • Specification, Phrase, Dangerous Goods, Recipe Management
  • Product Structure Management (PSM) Variant, PSM Structure
  • Node, PSM Dependency
